This mission is to be accomplished through events, including a speaker series from industry professionals, data case competition, workshops, and investigating and analyzing University and community data to drive community-based projects and solutions.

Want to start learning Python?

Check out our intro course!

This spring semester, CADS is excited to introduce Intro to Python for Data Science,  a video series about the basics and application of Python. If you are interested in getting started with analytics and data science, this resource is for you as it goes from the basics to applications of Python in analytics. Moreover, the series will help provide the necessary knowledge to follow along with CADS’s more intermediate and advanced technical workshops.

What is the Carolina Data Challenge?

Register here!

The Carolina Data Challenge (CDC) is an annual data science event held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Each year, we have the great privilege of welcoming hundreds of curious students from around the globe to our event.

The event will kick off on September 25th with our inaugural data science conference followed by our data challenge. This year our data challenge will start on September 26th and end on October 2nd to give participants the opportunity to create unique projects they would be proud to add to their portfolio.

Our main objective this year is to welcome all students of different backgrounds to increase their awareness and understanding of data science. In fact, this is so important to us that we have chosen “Perspectives” as this year’s data challenge theme. We hope to achieve our goal of inclusivity by ensuring that beginners and experts alike have a fun and informative experience at CDC.

What is Data Science Day?

Data Science Day is designed to showcase data science from a perspective focused on research and theory. We aim to introduce participants from technical and nontechnical backgrounds to machine learning and other exciting areas of data science. Explore projects from a variety of disciplines in research, industry and academia. Network with professionals from these fields to expose yourself to the true interdisciplinary nature of data science. Join a celebration of data science through presenting your own project and research work or listening to presentations of undergraduates, graduates, and professionals.

Due to COVID-19, CADS Data Science Day will be held virtually this year to keep our participants and our community safe. Don’t worry; you’ll have lots of opportunities to meet sponsors, learn through workshops, and hang out online with other participants!
